What skills and experience we're looking for
Truro and Penwith Academy Trust, together with Sennen School, are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant (maternity cover) to join our team and support our exciting new continuous provision approach within a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 classroom.
Sennen School is the first and last school in the land, located in the small village of Sennen, just 8 miles west of Penzance and under 2 miles from Land’s End. We are fortunate to have easy access to Sennen Cove, one of Cornwall’s beautiful beaches. Our engaging curriculum inspires a love of learning, reading and nature. We make the most of our stunning surroundings through forest and beach learning, and are developing our school grounds further to include a forest school area and growing space.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an innovative and child-centred learning environment. You will:
Support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning within a continuous provision model
Work closely with the class teacher to enhance provision and learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors
Facilitate play-based learning, encouraging independence, curiosity, and creativity
Observe and respond to children’s interests to extend learning meaningfully
Support the development of key skills across the curriculum, particularly in communication, early reading, writing, and maths
Build positive relationships with pupils to support their emotional wellbeing and engagement
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about early learning and is excited by creative, hands-on approaches to teaching.
About You:
We are looking for someone who:
Has experience working with children in KS1 or EYFS (desirable but not essential)
Has a good understanding of child development and play-based learning
Is enthusiastic, flexible, and proactive
Can work effectively as part of a team and use their initiative
Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Is committed to supporting all children to achieve their best
Brings energy, creativity, and a positive attitude to the classroom
