What skills and experience we're looking for
Clarendon Academy is looking for a dynamic Teaching Assistant to support some of our fantastic students across the school and its provisions on a maternity cover contract, with effect from April 2025. This is a wonderful opportunity to join our dedicated team of Teaching Assistants. The SEND team continues to grow and offers a supportive environment for staff to grow and develop their career.

Clarendon Academy is a thriving co-educational, non-denominational secondary school and sixth form, educating young people between the ages of 11 and 18. Located in the bustling town of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, and in easy commuter distance from Bath, we pride ourselves on being a centre of excellence and a place where young, enthusiastic children enter in Year 7 and leave us at the end of Year 13 as fully rounded young adults. We are part of the Acorn Education Trust, which provides exciting opportunities to collaborate and improve local education.
The successful candidate must be able to work across all age ranges and abilities within our school and be prepared to work flexibly to support students with additional needs, including those requiring SEN support, liaising with teachers and SENCO. Responsibilities include providing general classroom support, meeting the students’ emotional and social needs and liaising with other teaching staff in the development and delivery of an adaptive curriculum.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has at least grade C in GCSE English and Maths or equivalent;
- Has a passion for delivering high quality and exciting opportunities for young people and supporting them in their development;
- Has strong interpersonal and communication skills and are able to work with a variety of pupils, staff and parents;
- Is self-motivated, dedicated and consistent;
- Has the ability to deal with new challenging situations;
- Is a strong team player, good at building relationships;
- Has a confident, resilient and flexible attitude;
- Is organised and enthusiastic;
- Enjoys working with young people and can develop good working relationships with them;
- Understands and is sympathetic to the needs of young people, including their social, emotional and mental wellbeing;
- Has experience of supporting student’s learning.
