Make a difference. Inspire confidence. Help every student succeed.

Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning? Do you have the enthusiasm, patience and commitment to make a real difference in the classroom?

Heworth Grange Academy is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team.

About the role

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with teachers to provide support that helps our students get the very best from their education. You’ll play an important role in creating a positive, inclusive and purposeful learning environment where students feel safe, supported and encouraged to achieve.

You’ll provide individual and small-group support, helping students to access lessons and develop their knowledge, confidence and independence. This may include supporting pupils with SEND, individual learning needs and behaviour plans, helping them to overcome barriers and fully engage in school life.

You’ll work alongside teachers to deliver agreed learning activities and programmes, adapting your approach in response to students’ needs. You’ll monitor and provide feedback on students’ progress, support literacy and numeracy activities, assist with resources and help students make the best possible progress.

Building positive relationships will be a key part of the role. You’ll encourage students to participate, work cooperatively and take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour. You’ll celebrate their achievements, promote self-esteem and help them develop the confidence and independence they need to succeed.

You’ll also contribute to the wider life of the classroom and school, working closely with teachers, colleagues and parents/carers to ensure students receive consistent and effective support.

About you

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of working with children or young people.
  • Can build positive, supportive relationships with students.
  • Understands the importance of inclusion and removing barriers to learning.
  • Can encourage students to develop confidence, independence and self-esteem.
  • Works well as part of a team and is willing to learn and develop.
  • Has a positive, caring and consistent approach to supporting young people.

A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience is required.

Why join us?

At Heworth Grange, we believe in “Every Child - No Excuses”. We recognise that some students need additional support to overcome barriers to learning, and we work together to find the right solutions to help every young person achieve their potential.

Our “No Islands” culture means we work collaboratively and support one another. We value relationships and believe that by working together, we can create the best possible environment for our students and staff.

As part of Consilium Academies, you’ll also have access to professional development and opportunities to develop your skills and career within a collaborative Trust committed to Excellence, Equity and Integrity.

If you’re ready to join a team that believes every child can succeed, and you want a role where your support can genuinely make a difference to young people, we’d love to hear from you.
