Batchwood School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our committed team. This is an exciting opportunity to support young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in a specialist setting.
Batchwood School is a mixed SEMH secondary school where every student is known and valued as an individual. The current pupil roll is 110 students, organised into 11 classes of approximately 7 pupils supported by a teaching assistant when available. We are a ‘listening’ school and place emphasis upon thinking and talking through problems, finding solutions and being part of a whole community. There is a strong ethos in helping the pupils manage their own behaviour. We are proud of our inclusive and supportive environment, where we believe every child can succeed when appropriately challenged and inspired. Our staff are passionate about helping students develop the skills, resilience and confidence needed for success in adult life.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support students with SEMH needs in both classroom and pastoral settings
- Assist teachers in delivering a personalised and engaging curriculum
- Help students develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive relationships
- Contribute to a safe, structured and supportive learning environment
- Use de-escalation and behaviour management strategies (training provided)
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEMH or SEND setting
- Is patient, resilient and able to build positive relationships
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
- Works effectively as part of a team
- Has a proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning and behaviour
At Batchwood School, you will benefit from:
- A supportive and welcoming staff team
- Ongoing professional development, including behaviour management training
- Small class sizes and a personalised approach to learning
- Opportunities to make a real difference in students’ lives
Our curriculum combines academic and blended learning with strong pastoral support, helping students build confidence, independence and the skills needed for future education and employment.
If you are passionate about supporting young people and want to be part of a school that truly values every individual, we would love to hear from you.
Batchwood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check will be required.
