Teaching Assistant (Co-Educator) job summary

Supporting pupils with complex special educational needs, the Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers and a multidisciplinary team to deliver personalised learning and care. The role involves supporting communication, engagement, and independence through structured and adapted activities, while helping pupils access a broad and meaningful curriculum.

You will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction, using consistent strategies in line with school policies and training such as Total Communication and TeamTeach. The role includes supporting pupils with personal care, physical needs, and therapeutic programmes, as well as contributing to assessment, record-keeping, and classroom organisation.

This is a highly rewarding but also physically and emotionally demanding role. Some pupils may present with behaviours that challenge, and staff are expected to respond with patience, resilience, and professionalism. A strong team ethos is essential, and you will be supported through training, clear guidance, and collaborative working practices.

This role is ideal for someone who is committed to making a meaningful difference, is adaptable in their approach, and is passionate about supporting pupils to achieve greater independence and wellbeing.
