What skills and experience we're looking for
Sunnyside Academy wishes to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant to work in the d/Deaf Base with d/Deaf pupils. This position would be to start as soon as possible.
Sunnyside School is a large mainstream primary school with two support bases for children who are d/Deaf, children with a Visual Impairment and children with Higher Needs and Communication and Interaction difficulties
The school is committed to the philosophy of creating a genuine inclusive learning community. The successful applicant will work alongside Qualified Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People within the base and integrate into mainstream classes as appropriate. The successful candidate will need to be qualified to BSL level 2. Knowledge and experience of d/Deaf children would be desirable.
The successful candidate will work with teachers to support teaching and learning by working with individuals and/or small groups of pupils, adjusting activities within set parameters under the direction, guidance and supervision of teaching staff.
Candidates should be suitably qualified and experienced, possessing a NVQ level 2 or equivalent, having experience of worked as a classroom or teaching assistant within a primary school and be able to meet the criteria detailed on the person specification.
