Teaching Assistant - FTC job summary
“Teaching assistants in our school form a bridge in many ways. They not only support through interventions and class learning but act as guides to our children in how we want them to be. They are invaluable, full of humour, drive and life.”
Horley Infant School is looking for a caring, nurturing member of staff to temporarily join our fantastic team to help support the children’s learning and development. This position would be perfect for somebody who is child-centred, enjoys working with children under seven, has good interpersonal skills, is an effective team player and is knowledgeable about how to support learning in the infant phase. The role will involve a combination of both class-based teaching assistant duties as well as 1:1 / small group interventions and support.
We would love to hear from people who have an appreciation that everyone has the potential to achieve in their own way. An understanding of the Early Years Framework or KS1 National Curriculum or experience of leading interventions or supporting specific needs would be desirable.
Horley Infant School has a positive local reputation whereby we live by our vision and values of “embracing and nurturing the individual” and “inspiring all to achieve”. We pride ourselves on giving a family feel to our school, even though we have nearly 270 children on roll. In May 2018, Ofsted recognised that we continue to be a good school but don’t just take their word for it - feel free to come along and take a look around. We hope you would agree that being at our school is a lot like the difference between being in a home and being in a house. In our latest Staff Wellbeing Survey, our school staff reported an 11% greater level of job satisfaction than the national benchmark.
The successful candidate will:
- be able to motivate and inspire our children to achieve their best in all areas of learning and behaviour
- be committed to inclusion, high expectations and raising standards
- be excellent communicators with good organisational and personal skills
- be enthusiastic about contributing to the wider life of the school
In return we can offer you:
- high quality professional development both in school and as a member of Greensand Multi Academy Trust
- access to an employee assistance scheme offering a range of wellbeing and health support initiatives
- access to an employee staff shop offering a selection of staff discounts, including retail, food and beverages
- an environment where innovation and inspirational ideas are encouraged
- the opportunity to work with an exceptional team of staff who are committed to the success and welfare of every child in our Trust
This is a temporary contract for 12 months from September 2026. The working hours per week will be 26.25, across 38 weeks per annum (plus some additional training days). Working days are Monday to Friday from 8.40am to 3.10pm. Breaks during the day will be unpaid.
We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of our Trust. We strive to create a diverse and inclusive environment and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If you need any specific support or require alternative formats, please contact us.
The closing date for applications is Thursday 2nd July at 2pm. Shortlisting will take place on the same day with interviews taking place on Friday 10th July.
