About the role

Sparken Hill Academy is looking for a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our Key Stage 2 team. You will work under the direction of class teachers to support pupils’ learning, wellbeing and progress, helping every child feel confident, included and ready to achieve.

The post is based in KS2, but you may occasionally be deployed to other departments depending on the needs of the school. We’re looking for someone who is flexible, adaptable and happy to support children of different ages and abilities.

Main responsibilities

  • Support individuals and small groups in class, helping pupils access the curriculum and build independence
  • Deliver learning activities and interventions planned by the teacher, particularly in literacy and numeracy
  • Support pupils with additional needs, including SEND, following agreed plans and strategies
  • Help create a safe, positive and well-organised learning environment
  • Promote good behaviour and positive relationships in line with the academy’s policies
  • Prepare and tidy resources, and support displays
  • Observe and share feedback on pupils’ progress and wellbeing with teaching staff
  • Support children’s personal care and welfare needs where required
  • Contribute to the wider life of the academy as part of a team
  • About you

    You will have:

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and maths, grade 4/C or above
  • Experience of working with children, in a school or similar setting (paid or voluntary)
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to build warm, positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers
  • Patience, resilience and a good sense of humour
  • The ability to work as part of a team and to use your own initiative
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Desirable: a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, and experience of supporting pupils with SEND or delivering interventions.
