Teaching Assistant/Hydrotherapy Assistant Level 1, 20 hours per week job summary
This post will primarily involve supporting the swimming teacher to deliver either hydrotherapy to pupils with physical difficulties or helping pupils with autism and/or severe learning needs to access ‘water fun’ sessions to help with their sensory processing needs. Pupils may also be referred for therapeutic water sessions as part of individual programmes. All applicants should be willing to work with pupils from any class throughout the school and a good level of physical fitness is required.
We are seeking to employ a positive, enthusiastic individual whose personal attributes will contribute to a team of staff fully committed to ‘going the extra mile’ for our pupils’ needs. It is essential that the successful applicant will have experience- in either a paid, voluntary or in a personal capacity- to demonstrate:
1) Performing a caring/supportive role.
2) The physical ability to continue to support secondary aged pupils through periods of challenging behaviour strictly following the principles and procedures of the school’s training programme (which prioritises avoidance of this need).
3) Successful experience of team work.
4) The ability to support pupils with changing/dressing including moving and handling.
5) Physically able to go in the water to support pupils under the supervision of the swimming teacher.
Experience of working in an educational environment and/or with people with learning difficulties is desirable but not essential. See the job description and personal specification to understand the precise requirements for this post. Please note that Cromwell High School has the highest standards of child protection and that this post is exempt from Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 and all candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
