What skills and experience we're looking for

● First aid training/training as appropriate.

● Good numeracy/literacy skills.

● Be able to react constructively to challenging situationsinvolving the care and management of individual children.

● Being able to deal with emotional and physical challengespresented by regular involvement in physical intervention.

● Participate in development and training opportunities.

● Good knowledge of using specialist ICT resources /programmes to ensure pupil access

● Excellent communication skills together with the ability tocommunicate fluently in English to fulfil the requirements of the post.

● Use basic technology – computer, video, and photocopier.

● Ability to relate well to children and adults.

● Work constructively as part of a team, understandingclassroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.

● Displays commitment to the protection and safeguarding ofchildren and young people.

● Participate in development and training opportunities.

● Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seeklearning opportunities.

● Working with or caring for children of relevant age.

● Enhanced DBS Check

● Above average exposure to pupils with traumatic,degenerative, terminal conditions, or who have difficult and demanding behavioural problems, will require the postholder to cope with above average levels of emotional stress.

● Close contact with pupils may result in some exposure tobodily fluids.

● May require Hepatitis B vaccination.

● Particularly in schools that have pupils with behaviouraldifficulties, postholder can be at risk of physical injury and needs to remain vigilant and observe risk assessment protocols.

● Members of staff must take part in the behavioural andphysical intervention training that it is offered by the School

SEN SCHOOL: Beckmead Family of Schools was rated Outstanding by Ofsted in January 2017 and became the Beckmead (Academy) Trust in April 2019. The Family of Schools is an expanding learning and nurturing community for young people, with Educational Health Care Plans, based over a number of sites. The Monks Orchard Road site is for 60 KS2-3 boys with social, emotional and mental health needs (Beckmead) and 40 KS3-4 boys who have ASD and associated challenging behaviour (Chaffinch Brook Upper). The Morland Road site, Chaffinch Brook Lower, is for 39 primary age pupils who have a diagnosis of autism and present with challenging behaviour. Bramley Bank, Rainbow class at Aerodrome Primary and The Beck at Forest Academy provide education for 36 children referred from mainstream schools who have not been able to meet their needs. Tharreo House is a small, therapeutic provision for vulnerable secondary age pupils with complex needs. Beckmead College and The Community Learning Team, offer a variety of individualised vocational and learning pathways for up to 100 KS4 and KS5 students.
