Teaching Assistant Level 2 job summary

Burrowmoor Primary Academy seek to appoint a number of inspirational, dedicated, enthusiastic and caring Teaching Assistants to join our experienced team, initially for one term with immediate affect.

School based experience of working with children with additional communication and social and emotional needs is essential. The role will be to initially support children in KS1 who have EHCPs, to help develop their communication challenges, speech & language difficulties, social and emotional regulation and social interaction challenges. The right candidates will be working closely to support the SENDCo, existing Teaching assistants and the class teacher. There will be times when this person will be working in a smaller group setting too.

You will work 32.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break between 12:15 p.m. - 12:45 p.m., 38 working weeks per annum until 31st July 27. For the right candidates this could be extended.

We are looking for people with relevant school based experience, who will bring enthusiasm and a commitment to children's learning to our happy and friendly school. The right candidate will need to be adaptable, child focussed, enthusiastic, highly motivated, calm and patient, and have the ability to work as part of a team, as well as use their own initiative. The ability to re-focus children and to think on their feet will be essential for this challenge.

Desirable knowledge and skills include:

  • Attention Autism Experience
  • A good understanding of Trauma informed practice
  • Makaton
  • A good understanding of the EYFS and KS1 curriculum and expectations, including phonics
  • Techniques and ideas to refocus dysregulated children in many different situations.
