Acorn Education Trust is looking for a caring and committed Teaching Assistant to support pupils within our Link 2 nurture base at New Close Primary School in Warminster, Wiltshire. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual looking to work with children with additional emotional and social needs, so they can access the curriculum and progress in their learning.
Working Hours: Part Time (25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 39 weeks per year, includes Teacher Training days). Required: ASAP.
At Acorn, we pride ourselves on transforming education locally, with our two nurseries, seventeen primary and four secondary schools being at the heart of their local communities. Our Link 2 nurture base is a dedicated provision for children with social and emotional needs and/or an Autistic Spectrum Disorder, which affects how they access the curriculum. Staff here are committed to the development and delivery of an adaptive curriculum for all young learners so they can feel engaged, challenged and able to make excellent progress. The aim of the setting, which is likely to move to Trowbridge in September 2026, is to re-integrate children back into their home Primary School.
As a Teaching Assistant within the nurture base, you must be prepared to work flexibly, working with other teaching staff to support pupils in their learning activities and in helping to meet the children’s emotional and social needs. SEND experience is advantageous.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has at least grade C in GCSE English and Maths or equivalent;
- Can work independently and with staff to support the learning opportunities of pupils;
- Has strong interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work with a variety of pupils, staff and parents;
- Is self-motivated, dedicated and consistent;
- Has the ability to deal with new challenging situations;
- Is a strong team player;
- Has a positive, flexible and patient attitude;
- Has experience of supporting pupil’s learning;
- Is First Aid trained or is prepared to undertake training;
- Understands and is sympathetic to the needs of children / young people, including their social, emotional and mental wellbeing;
- Has SEND experience (advantageous).
We can offer the successful candidate:
- An ambitious and vibrant place to work, with enthusiastic children and staff who are passionate about learning;
- A workplace where everyone feels valued and supported;
- Opportunities for training and progression;
- The support of Acorn Education Trust, with excellent opportunities to work with experienced colleagues;
- A supportive and clearly defined induction procedure.
