What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, passionate individual, interested in supporting pupils to learn effectively and having a positive impact upon pupil outcomes.

The post is supporting a pupil in KS2 with Down’s Syndrome, and implementing their Education Health and Care Plan. The post holder will deliver learning through a combination of 1-2-1 and group support, to enable the pupil to learn effectively, as well as enabling inclusion through whole class learning. This includes delivering bespoke interventions and adapting learning to suit the pupils needs. The successful candidate will also work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, external agencies and parents to continually review and monitor provision and progress.

The post holder will be required to use initiative, maintaining a nurturing, positive approach to encourage growing independence, whilst also clearly establishing and maintaining boundaries.

Supporting independence will sometimes involve working on other tasks or with other children.

Essential qualities include:

  • ability to work flexibly and as part of a team, following planning and providing feedback to the teacher
  • display a positive attitude towards work and be friendly and approachable to all members of our school community
  • good communication skills with adults
  • hold and model high expectations for pupil behaviour and learning
  • commitment to a kind nurturing child centred approach to learning
  • good communication skills with children so that praise/directions are positive and clear
  • understanding of confidentiality
  • commitment to promoting the safety and welfare of children
  • ability to cope with the physical demands of the post

  • good standard of education
  • recognised TA qualification/recent experience working as a TA

  • willingness to address any identified training needs
  • commitment to the academy’s vision for education and its core values

Desirable skills/ qualities:

  • current first aid qualification
  • previous/recent experience working with a child with special educational needs
  • some knowledge and understanding of Down Syndrome
