Role Introduction

Your role will play a vital part in supporting teaching and learning, helping all children to achieve their full potential within a positive, nurturing, and inclusive environment. A key focus of the role is working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), providing targeted support to individuals and small groups to help them access the curriculum, develop confidence, and make excellent progress. You will work closely with teachers to adapt learning activities, implement support strategies, prepare resources, and monitor pupil engagement and achievement. The Teaching Assistant role is essential in promoting high-quality learning experiences, developing independence, supporting positive behaviour, and ensuring that every child feels valued, included, and successful in their learning journey.

This is a flexible role that will be shaped around the strengths of the successful candidate and the needs of our pupils. The position may involve working within our Inclusion Base, supporting a small group of children requiring specialist provision outside of the mainstream classroom, primarily across the Early Years Foundation Stage and Year 1. Alternatively, the role may be based within our mainstream provision across Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2. In all cases, the central focus will be on supporting children with SEND, helping them to achieve positive outcomes academically, socially, and emotionally.

  • Foster positive attitudes to learning and help pupils to regulate their own behaviour and engagement
  • Help to assess and track student progress, providing feedback to the teacher.
  • Classroom Support & Management:

  • Model, teach and promote positive behaviour, helping pupils to develop the social, emotional and self-regulation skills needed to succeed in learning while maintaining a safe and supportive environment

Parklands Community Primary & Nursery School sees the potential in every child. We know that education changes lives and we have high expectations for all our pupils. Our team work hard to deliver opportunities for children to exceed their own expectations and believe in themselves in a way that they might never have thought possible. This is reflected in our Ofsted report from October 2022.

We ensure children become successful independent learners for life through a broad education focused on academic success, excellence in terms of care and welfare, and ensuring their talents and achievements are recognised & developed. When children leave our school, we want them to be excited about the opportunities that exist for them and have the confidence and skills vital for success in Key Stage 3 and in later life. We seek to create responsible, resilient and curious citizens. Each half-term we focus on one of our school values: independence, cooperation, respect, responsibility, resilience & ambition.

We want our children to be the best they can be and have three clear school rules to be: Ready, Respectful and Safe. We provide a caring and safe environment for your child and safeguarding is paramount. The school’s governing board, SENCo and learning mentors are very supportive. Around 60% of pupils are entitled to Pupil Premium and around 25% have been identified as having Special Education Needs. Around 5% of the school population are from the traveller community, though this figure fluctuates, and the number of pupils with EAL is increasing.
