What skills and experience we're looking for

(Please note in your application form if you are applying for the full-time or part-time position)

Do you love the idea of helping young people discover what they’re capable of? Are you someone who can bring calm, kindness and a well-timed smile to a busy school day?

As a Teaching Assistant at The Wymering School, you’ll help students engage with their learning, support their emotional well-being and build their confidence in school. You’ll be a key part of the classroom team and a steady presence during those inevitable ups and downs (because let’s face it, the classroom can be an emotional rollercoaster).

You’ll be the glue that holds things together – the calm in the storm – helping our students navigate their day without it ever feeling too overwhelming. If that sounds like your kind of challenge, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll do:

  • Become the trusty sidekick every student needs – helping them stay focused, encouraging them to try again, or offering a reassuring, “You’ve got this.”
  • Bring learning to life by helping tailor activities so they feel fun, accessible and meaningful for every student.
  • Keep the school day running smoothly with your organisational wizardry (no actual magic required… but we won’t complain if you have some).
  • Help create a classroom where students feel safe to be themselves – even on days when that self is a little wobbly.
  • Team up with teachers and colleagues to make each day the best it can be. We really are better together.

What we’re looking for:

  • Someone who communicates with clarity, warmth and a positive, approachable manner.
  • A reliable multitasker who can juggle several things at once – no circus skills needed, though bonus points if you can keep a straight face while doing it.
  • Experience working with children is great, but kindness, empathy and a willingness to learn matter even more.
  • A calm, steady presence who can navigate tricky moments and bounce back with resilience (and maybe a cup of tea).
  • A champion for young people who brings patience, positivity and genuine enthusiasm to every day.
  • Someone flexible enough to adapt to whatever the day brings – because every student (and every Tuesday) is different.
  • Above all, someone who shows up with the right attitude and a big heart.

What the school offers its staff

Why join us?

  • The chance to make a huge difference in the lives of young people, one small victory at a time.
  • Comprehensive support, Induction and training package
  • We’re a supportive team who’ll have your back during the good, the bad, and the “Did that really just happen?” moments.
  • Professional development opportunities because we’re all about helping you grow!
  • You will be part of an inclusive and collaborative team that, no matter what the challenge may be, are ready to face it head on and are committed to seeing it through.
  • A school that celebrates progress, not just results.
  • A rewarding role where no two days are the same and every day makes a difference.
  • The opportunity to develop your career in a School and Southern Education Trust, a growing Trust.

About us:

At The Wymering School, part of the Southern Education Trust, we’re passionate about “making lives better” by creating an environment where every child, regardless of their challenges, can shine.

We specialise in supporting young people with Social Communication and Interaction difficulties, associated Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties and high level of anxiety and/or associated distressed behaviour.

If you’re ready for a role where patience, care, and encouragement make a real difference – helping young people grow, celebrate their successes, and shine in their own unique way – then we’d love to hear from you.
