Teaching Assistant job summary
At EQUA Mead Learning Trust, our mission is to launch interests and ignite passions through inspirational learning for all, and we work hard to ensure children’s experiences are the very best they can be. We want all of our schools to be places where all children are happy and safe, motivated to reach their full potential and equipped to become resilient, independent learners.
We have the opportunity for a Teaching Assistant to join our team at River Mead School in Melksham. Whether you are an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a new challenge, or someone early in their career looking for the next step, this post will be rewarding and fulfilling. If you are passionate about providing Inspirational Learning for All children, and ready to support all of our learners to flourish, we would love to hear from you.
River Mead School is a single entry primary and nursery school with an average number of children on roll of 250. 37 of these children are educated within the Complex Needs Resource Base, and 34 are in the nursery. The proportion of children living with disadvantage and eligible for pupil premium funding is well above the national average, as is the proportion of pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities. The school is at the heart of its community and takes the pastoral care of its children and families as seriously as it does their educational needs.
We pride ourselves on our comprehensive induction process and delivering ongoing professional development to all of our staff. We will give full training to the right person, as we believe strongly that it’s much more about attitude and approach than it is about experience. As a result, we welcome applications from people who are passionate about working with children, no matter what their background is.
The role will involve:
Working with groups of individuals within all curricular areas under the direction of the teacher, to develop the physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills of the children
Assisting with learning activities to develop children’s knowledge through support and encouragement
Preparing activities, ensuring that appropriate materials/equipment are available, and assisting in clearing away afterwards
Supporting the preparation and adaptation of teaching aids, games, and worksheets as directed
Meeting children’s pastoral needs for praise, comfort, encouragement, reassurance and care
Taking responsibility for the welfare and hygiene of pupils
Administering First Aid and medication
Ideally, you will have a Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, and be trained in First Aid, or willing to undertake training.
As well as your core Teaching Assistant responsibilities, you will act as a Midday Supervisory Assistant (MDSA), supporting children in the hall to have a calm and enjoyable lunchtime, or be based on the playground supporting children with engaging in the varied lunchtime activities.
Inclusion is the beating heart of our organisation, and we cherish it in our staff just like we do in our children. We are committed to creating a workforce that is reflective of our communities and welcome applications from anyone with the skills and experience to do the role they are applying to, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, disability or any other protected characteristic. We recognise the value and contribution every member of our staff makes to our schools, and in return for their dedication and commitment we provide:
A clear vision with purpose and values that are supported by all our staff
An ambitious and vibrant place to work, with enthusiastic staff and children in all of our schools
A highly organised and very supportive team
Dedicated weekly planning time which Teaching Assistants are paid to attend
High quality professional development opportunities from Day One, including a National College and National Online Safety training account, where you can access thousands of training courses online for free
Unlimited, free access to the Employee Assistance Programme which gives all our staff confidential support and guidance when they need it most
Hours of work: 8.30am - 3.15pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday. 8.30am - 4.30pm Thursday. 39 weeks a year (term time only plus 5 INSET Days)
