What skills and experience we're looking for
The overall purpose of the post is to provide support for individual pupils and/or small groups of pupils with special educational needs, under the supervision of your class teacher/HLTA, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities. Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Assist pupils in accesing education;
- Assist with the personal needs of pupils, including positioning, feeding, and toileting;
- Prepare the classroom and clear up afterwards as directed by the class teacher/HLTA;
- Assist with carrying out medical procedures as necessary and under the supervison of on-site nurses;
- Assist with behaviour management under the direction of the class teacher and headteacher;
- Contribute as directed to pupils’ behaviour/education plans;
- Undertake routine clerical tasks, e.g. photocopying of classroom resources etc;
- Liaise with parents/carers as requested by classroom teacher and/or members of the SLT;
- Assist with supervision of pupils outside of class time and on school visits and trips.
- Other duties commensurate with your grade and under the direction of your line manager/SLT.

Pupils attend from across the Wakefield Metropolitan District. Many of our pupils have additional complex needs including Autistic Spectrum Disorders, sensory impairment, challenging behaviour and physical difficulties. The school is well equipped, providing excellent facilities and resources for all pupils. In November 2019 we were delighted to receive our second consecutive “Outstanding” grade from Ofsted.

Oakfield Park School is a Local Authority maintained school providing high class education for young people aged 11 to 19 years who have severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. Many of our pupils have additional complex needs including ASDs, sensory impairment, communication problems, challenging behaviour and physical difficulties. In October 2019 we received our second consecutive Ofsted judgement of “Outstanding”. The school is well equipped providing excellent accommodation for pupils with disabilities including those with physical and complex needs. It is a single storey construction allowing access for wheelchairs.
