Teaching Assistant / Teaching Assistant Apprentice job summary

The aim of the Student Support Department is to provide all students with whatever additional support they may need during their time at Ringwood School, in order that they can achieve to the best of their ability. The teaching assistants in the Student Support team will be working under the direction and guidance of the department leaders, Carla Bastow-Hart and Vicki Lewis.

Teaching Assistants are involved in activities such as the following:

in-class support of students with a wide range of special educational needs

working with individuals and small groups in the Student Support base (known in school as The Hive)

following specific intervention programmes, dependent on experience and areas of expertise

supporting students with homework at lunchtimes or after school

differentiating teaching materials

liaising with subject staff

reading and / or scribing for students sitting tests and external examinations

completing reports for review meetings

taking part in in-service training and attending department meetings

contributing to meetings with parents and external professionals as necessary

supporting the students in working towards their targets

We are looking for candidates for this post who have experience of working with young people and/or have a relevant qualification or are willing to undergo training, and who share our enthusiasm and commitment to providing support for young people whatever their needs.
