Wellington Place Primary School are looking for a caring, experienced and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work alongside the class teacher to support learning in class and run interventions, to join our team and be a proactive integrated member of the School Staff Team.

As part of your role you will, under the direction of a teacher, support in the learning process and utilise your skills to assist the teacher to create an educational environment in which a pupil's all-round development is achieved.

Discovery Schools Trust will run the 210-pupil newly named Wellington Place Primary School, which is currently under construction off Airfield Road on the William Davis’ Airfield Farm housing estate. Discovery Schools Trust very much wishes the education experience at Wellington Place to be designed with pupils at its heart; giving pupils the tools to become active citizens through their exploration of meaningful experiences, exploring the past, the present day, and how their learning could impact the future.

The Local Authority wishes to open the new schools’ doors in a phased approach beginning in September 2024, in time for the new academic year.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To assist with the planning, delivery and evaluation of whole class learning activities, including identifying how the pupils can best be supported.
  • To work under the supervision of a teacher to plan, deliver and evaluate learning activities for small groups or individual pupils, providing feedback on pupil engagement and their achievement of the desired learning objectives.
  • To support pupils to improve their numeracy and literacy skills through focussed learning activities and more generally across the curriculum.
  • To assist with the maintenance of pupil record keeping systems, including recording agreed updates to individual records.
  • To lead an extra-curricular activity under the direction of the school but with limited direct supervision.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • NVQ 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent OR able to demonstrate the ability to meet the STL Level 3 National Occupational Standards relevant to this post.
  • Experience of supporting teaching and learning in a formal setting
  • Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
