What skills and experience we're looking for

Essential

Qualifications

  • Must be educated to GCSE standard in English and Maths (Grades A-C or 9-5)

  • A relevant qualification in Childcare and/or Education.

Professional Development

  • Commitment to own personal professional development programme.

  • Evidence of participating in training.

Experience

  • Experience of working with young children in school.
  • Being a paid worker in play schemes, crèches, midday supervision, after-school clubs or similar.

Knowledge and Understanding

  • Understanding the needs of young children; child development and the ways in which children learn.
  • Understanding behaviour management strategies; equal opportunities and safeguarding.

  • Supporting children with additional needs 1:1 and in class situations

Skills

  • To assist children on an individual basis, in small groups and where necessary whole class work.
  • To explain tasks simply and clearly whilst fostering independence in learning.
  • To promote and model positive choices of behaviour for children, and adhere to defined behaviour management policies.
  • To work with guidance, but under limited supervision; liaise and communicate effectively with others.
  • To demonstrate good organisational skills.
  • To display work effectively, and make and maintain basic teaching resources.
  • To be willing to undertake necessary training and professional development opportunities as required.
  • To monitor, record and make basic assessments about children’s progress.
  • To work creatively when supporting children’s learning.
  • To be able to identify areas of key professional development.
