Teaching Assistant job summary

Teaching Assistant

Previous experience is desirable although not essential but the right candidate will need to have patience, understanding and the flexibility to undertake a variety of tasks working with students’ with additional needs. Full and Part time considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-class support to students with additional needs
  • Develop and deliver one-to-one or small group interventions to students with SEN (including Phonics, English and Maths)
  • Develop and deliver interventions to support social skills, SEMH and resilience
  • Work collaboratively with the SENDCO, teachers, and other support staff to identify and support students with additional needs
  • Build positive relationships with students to help them feel valued and understood
  • Record and monitor the progress of students
  • Liaise with external professionals when required to ensure students' holistic development

Key Requirements:

  • Experience working in an educational setting is desirable
  • An understanding of SEN is essential
  • ELSA trained or a willingness to undertake ELSA training
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills
  • A GCSE pass (or equivalent) in Maths and English is essential. A pass in Science is desirable.
  • A patient, compassionate, empathetic, and understanding approach to working with students with additional needs
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the wider school community
  • The ability to take direction but also be able to use initiative when required
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
