What skills and experience we're looking for

  • Attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters.
  • Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning.
  • Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
  • To aid access to the full range of learning experiences both inside the classroom and provide modified materials as required e.g. worksheets, games, visual prompts etc.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  • Provide reinforcements, praise and rewards to pupils.
  • To facilitate inclusion in small group activities with peers and support interaction between them.
  • To make and modify resources as suggested and advised by the Class Teacher, SENCo, Educational Psychologist or other outside agencies.
  • Prepare classroom as directed for lessons and clear afterwards and assist with the display of pupils’ work or books.
  • Be aware of pupil problems/progress/achievement and report to the teacher as agreed.
  • Undertake pupil record keeping as requested.
  • Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate.
  • Gather/report information from/to parents/carers as directed.
  • Be keenly aware of the responsibility for safeguarding children and to help in the application of the Safeguarding Policy within the school.

Wood Field Primary school have an exciting opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our ASD Oak Field provision on a part-time or full-time, term time only basis.

Oak Field is a highly specialist primary base for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, situated on the same grounds as Wood Field. As a welcoming and expanding base, we take pride in our strong sense of passion, commitment, and community.

Our dedicated staff celebrate each child’s strengths and personality while encouraging them to reach their full potential. We take pride in delivering a highly tailored and engaging curriculum that focuses on independence, social interaction, and communication. We use a variety of Autistic Spectrum Disorder specific strategies, bringing all ‘the best bits’ together to offer an eclectic approach. With class sizes ranging from 6 to 8 students and an adult-to-child ratio designed to meet individual needs, we ensure personalised support for every child.

Teaching Assistants provide valuable support to teaching staff and are able to make a significant contribution to the education and well-being of pupils.

The successful candidate will be a proactive, collaborative team player with a positive, 'can-do' attitude and a genuine passion for working with young children. You will work closely with teachers and other staff to provide high-quality support for teaching and learning, help maintain a safe and stimulating environment, and contribute to our commitment to providing exceptional and stimulating education experiences for our pupils.
