What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for enthusiastic, suitably qualified and experienced classroom support staff to join our school, who have a passion for education and commitment to working alongside the teachers to provide a high quality learning environment. Essential requirements:

  • Have at least 3 years’ experience of working with children who have special needs
  • Have good written and verbal communications skills and be numerate (to be tested)
  • Have achieved NVQ qualification (level 2/3 Scale 6 or level 3 Scale 7) or its equivalent level
  • Be able to work as a team, yet use your own initiative
  • Be prepared to work with children who may have challenging behaviours

Ideally, candidates will also have:

  • Developed skills in differentiated learning a multisensory techniques
  • Developed skills and/or have training in structured teaching approaches e.g. TEACCH/SCERTs
  • Developed skills and/or have training in motivational behaviour approaches

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and work collaboratively with teachers
  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to children with special educational needs, helping them to engage with their learning
  • Assist in the delivery of differentiated lessons and activities to cater to individual learning needs
  • Foster strong relationships with students to support their social and emotional development
  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay up-to-date with best practices in SEN
