Teaching & Learning Assistant job summary

Buxton Junior School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, positive and hardworking Teaching and Learning Assistant. We are a friendly, happy school with a supportive staff team and well-motivated children who are eager to engage and learn.

The role will involve working 27.5 hours over 5 days a week (9.05am to 3.35pm) providing pupil support on a one-to-one basis, or within small groups, as well as supporting the class teacher with general classroom management. There is also the expectation that you will cover for 30 minutes every lunchtime as a Midday Supervisor.

Whether you’ve worked in schools, youth work, care, or another setting — if you connect well with young people and believe in inclusion, we want to hear from you.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is emotionally intelligent, positive and proactive. You’ll work alongside our experienced team to support pupils’ learning, wellbeing and development, helping create a classroom where all children feel safe, supported and inspired.

About You

You don’t need to have worked in a school before. If you’re passionate about helping children succeed, love working as part of a team, and have the confidence to build strong relationships with pupils, this could be the perfect next step for you.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Connects easily and positively with children
  • Is calm, flexible and compassionate
  • Can work closely with teachers and colleagues to deliver excellent support
  • Is willing to learn and grow with us
