What skills and experience we're looking for

Westborough High School is a caring, vibrant and happy learning community. We value all our staff and work together to make a difference to children’s lives.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspirational Team Leader of English to join our school. This vacancy will suit a highly effective teacher of English ready to take on or develop their leadership. You will support the Director with the development and implementation of the English curriculum across both key stages, ensuring pupils achieve their full potential in this subject. You will be supported to build on your current excellent practice both as a leader and a highly effective teacher of English.

Westborough has a strong team leader development programme and there are opportunities to network with other English departments. Westborough has an established staffing platform and can develop teachers and leaders whatever their career stage.

Following the Section 8 Ofsted inspection in June 2026, Westborough achieved the green expected judgement in every category. Inspectors were highly complimentary about the quality of education provided at Westborough, recognising that ‘pupils are supported well to achieve.’ The inspectors praised the professional learning provided to staff and commented ‘staff value this support and recognise how this shapes their practice,’ ‘staff are proud to work at the school.’ ‘They feel supported by leaders who take workload and wellbeing into consideration’. The Ofsted team also recognised that ‘leaders and staff have high expectations of pupils’ in all aspects of school life, from academic achievement to standards of behaviour. Inspectors further noted that ‘leaders and staff act as role models for pupils. They build effective relationships that are the foundation for highly effective pastoral support.’ This reflects the caring and ambitious culture that we strive to provide for every young person.

Applications are welcomed from candidates who:

    • Have experience of planning a broad, structured and coherent curriculum
    • Consistently deliver highly effective lessons in your subject area
    • Have experience of developing effective teaching resources and strategies
    • Have the skills and energy to inspire, lead and motivate others

What the school offers its staff

As a valued member of our team we can offer:

  • Clear and shared values and expectations
  • A commitment to tailored professional development
  • A stimulating work environment
  • An experienced, highly committed and support leadership team

If you have the vision and drive for excellence and want to be part of an enthusiastic, dedicated and well-resourced team, committed to ensuring that pupils not only achieve their potential, but exceed it, then we would like to hear from you.

You are warmly welcomed to visit our school to meet other staff and to see for yourself what a great place Westborough is to work.
