Don't just fix technology. Help transform a school.
Imagine walking into a classroom where the old projector flickers, the cables are a tangle, and the teacher loses ten minutes before the lesson even starts. Now imagine that same room a few months later: a bright interactive panel, a teacher device that just works, fast wireless and secure systems running quietly in the background.
You'll be the person who makes that change happen.
Westbourne Academy joins Inspiration Trust in January 2027, at the start of a major digital modernisation programme. This is a rare chance to join a school at the beginning of its journey, and to see the difference your work makes to teaching, learning and everyday school life.
The transformation you'll be part of
Over the coming months, Westbourne Academy will be rebuilt from the network up. You'll be hands-on across both programmes.
Infrastructure upgrades
- A full network refresh: new switches, modern wireless and a fibre backbone
- Server migrations
- Identity modernisation with Microsoft Entra ID, Intune and multi-factor authentication
- Structured cabling upgrades and a reorganised comms room
- Stronger cyber security built on Zero Trust principles
Classroom modernisation
- Interactive flat panels replacing legacy projectors
- New teacher devices, digital signage and hybrid learning tools
- Pilots of new digital tools, and learning platforms
- Training staff so the new technology is used with confidence every day
Few technicians get to see a school's technology transformed end to end. Here, you'll help shape it, and your feedback will influence what comes next.
You won't be doing this alone
Big projects can feel daunting as an on-site technician. That's not how we work.
You'll be part of Inspiration Trust's knowledgeable and effective Central IT Team, which supports 17 schools and more than 10,000 pupils. They plan and lead the major upgrades, and you'll be their trusted partner on the ground.
- Expert back-up in infrastructure, cloud, cyber security and classroom technology whenever you need it
- Proven standards and processes, so you're never building from a blank page
- A wider team of technicians across the Trust to learn from, share ideas with and lean on
- Real development, with hands-on project experience that would take years to gain elsewhere
What you'll do
- Be the friendly, go-to first-line support for staff and students
- Keep laptops, desktops, iPads, interactive panels, visualisers and classroom audio running smoothly
- Support Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, and manage accounts and permissions
- Look after printing, VoIP telephony and peripherals
- Make sure safeguarding filtering and monitoring are working as they should
- Work alongside contractors during installations, checking quality and safeguarding standards
- Help staff get the most from new technology through hands-on training
- Keep clear documentation, asset records and helpdesk logs
Who we're looking for
You don't need to know everything on day one. We're looking for someone curious, reliable and great with people.
You'll bring
- A strong understanding of Windows 11, Microsoft 365 and basic networking
- Experience supporting end-user devices and classroom technology
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, customer-focused attitude
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A genuine appetite to learn new technologies
It would be great if you also have
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and networking technologies
- Experience with Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune and cloud identity
- Experience of AV installations or classroom modernisation projects
- An understanding of safeguarding filtering and monitoring
- Experience in a school or multi academy trust
If you meet most of the essentials and are excited by the opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.
What we offer
- The chance to shape a school's technology from the ground up
- Hands-on experience of network, cloud, identity, security and AV projects
- Support, mentoring and professional development from the Central IT Team

Westbourne Academy is a calm and happy school. We are an inclusive academy. We support all students, regardless of their starting point, to achieve their potential and develop the skills necessary for employment and life.
Westbourne Academy is not just a school it is a microcosm of the world with students and staff from all around the globe. Between them, they speak 32 languages and their differing perspectives on learning and life makes this a unique academy. We also have the pleasure of 30% of our students speaking English as an additional language and value the cultural diversity they bring.
We try not to take ourselves too seriously but know that preparing young people for the adult world is an important undertaking. Since opening as an academy on 1 February 2013, attitudes, aspirations and expectations have been transformed. We believe that our circumstances are quite unique and, therefore, that we can make a massive difference to the students we serve.
Currently we have around 1000+ students. Many of our students do not have the easiest backgrounds and we are determined to ensure that we remove as many barriers to learning as possible. Around 30% of our students come from a disadvantaged background. We are delighted that Ipswich has been deemed an opportunity area for the Department for Education and look forward to taking an active part in this initiative to tackle disadvantage.
