We are a welcoming and caring school that promotes a strong team approach to providing our children with high quality learning experiences. We want every child to have a happy childhood and we want them to achieve their full potential. Our Core Values capture the ethos of our school and as staff we are all committed to these.
Bagthorpe is a rural village situated very close to the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border. Housing consists of a mixture of privately owned properties. A significant number of children live in Selston, a large neighbouring village.
The original school was built in 1870 with a linked addition being constructed in 1912. The school itself is housed in two linked buildings. The main building consists of a long corridor with 6 classrooms and a separate room for small group work.
There are presently a total of 167 children on roll. The school has 6 classes, including one YR/1, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6. There are 7 teachers plus Head Teacher, a Home-School Link Teacher, 6 Teaching Assistants, Office Manager, Clerical Assistant and Site Manager.
Adjoining our staff room is a work/study room, which is available for staff to use for PPA time. A separate classroom adjacent to the staff room provides extra space for meetings and art activities. A modular classroom is sited on the rear playground which provides facilities for outdoor and other education activities.
The school has hard play areas at the front and rear, two playing field areas and two large areas of woodland, all set within a five acre site. We aim to make best use of our school grounds and outdoor education is a strength of the school. A key part of our offer, is that children spend one afternoon each week learning outside the classroom. One members of staff is a certified Forest School Leaders and can provide induction and support for teachers, for whom this is new territory; you will however need to provide willingness and wellies!
Several local schools have visited with groups of children in order to use our facilities and some regular lettings are currently in place.
The school also admits additional children at KS2 from local infant schools.
The school has a very active PTA group.
In addition to this brief description of the physical organisation of the school, there is clearly a great deal of additional information available which will be useful to anyone considering applying for a post in the school. We would, therefore, encourage you to visit the school’s website at www.bagthorpeprimary.com
