Therapeutic Family Practitioner job summary

The Bridge School is seeking to appoint a Therapeutic Family Practitioner on a permanent contract to start in September 2025.

24 hours per week, All year round
(3 Days a week) working hours to be confirmed
Grade and salary: Grade 11 £20,488- £22,855 Dependent on experience and qualifications (pay award pending)

The Bridge School, Sedgemoor is one of four Pupil Referral Units commissioned by Somerset Council and local schools. We provide services through a number of centres for students with a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. All students are referred through their mainstream schools in the Sedgemoor area.

The Bridge School, Sedgemoor is the Pupil Referral Unit for mainstream schools in Sedgemoor, we support a number of students across the age range from 4 - 16 years where they are at risk or have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. We are looking for dynamic, positive, creative and resilient practitioners who can support children and young people across the school.

We are looking for a Therapeutic Family Practitioner to provide trauma-informed therapeutic support to children, young people, and families through 1:1 and group interventions. Build strong relationships, act as a link between home and school, and support families facing complex challenges. Use creative therapeutic tools, contribute to safeguarding and multi-agency planning, and help lead and develop wider family support services across the partnership.

You will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Substantial experience working with children, young people, and families.
  • Relevant qualifications in counselling, social work, or therapeutic interventions.
  • A deep understanding of trauma, attachment, and child development.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Confidence in lone working, problem solving, and making decisions in the best interest of children.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.
