Therapeutic Teaching Assistant job summary

Do you believe every young person deserves to feel safe, understood, and supported?

At University Collegiate School, we know that behind every behaviour is a story and we’re looking for a Therapeutic Teaching Assistant to help us read it, understand it, and rewrite it with care, empathy, and expertise.

If you’re passionate about mental health, emotional wellbeing, and making a meaningful impact — this could be your perfect role.

What You’ll Be Doing

As our Therapeutic Teaching Assistant, you’ll be the calm in the chaos and the voice that says, “You’ve got this.” You will:

  • 🧠 Deliver therapeutic support to students facing emotional or behavioural challenges

  • 💬 Build trusted relationships that help young people feel heard and valued

  • 🧩 Use trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to support wellbeing

  • 🎯 Create and deliver tailored interventions that genuinely make a difference

  • 🤝 Work closely with staff, families, and external professionals

  • 🌱 Help students develop emotional resilience, coping strategies, and confidence

Think part therapist, part mentor, part life-changer

What We’re Looking For

We’re not just ticking boxes — we’re looking for someone with heart.

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Have experience in therapeutic work (e.g., counselling, mental health support, youth work)

  • Lead with empathy, patience, and understanding

  • Stay grounded when things feel anything but

  • See beyond behaviour to the root causes

  • Believe every young person can grow, heal, and succeed

Bonus points if you:

  • Bring creativity into your interventions

  • Have a killer toolkit of calming strategies

  • Celebrate progress — big and small

What’s In It For You?

Because supporting others should mean being supported too:

  • A warm, welcoming team who genuinely care

  • An additional day of leave, a wellness day to support your wellbeing

  • Local Government Pension Scheme

  • Ongoing training and professional development

  • Opportunities to shape how therapeutic support is delivered

  • A role with purpose (the kind that sticks with you in the best way)

  • Staffroom chats, laughter, and the occasional biscuit

Ready to Make a Difference?

If you’re someone who sees potential where others see problems, and hope where others see barriers…

👉 Apply today and help us support brighter, healthier futures — one student at a time.

💭 “You may not always see the impact — but to a young person, you could be the reason everything changes.”
