Why Mid Essex?

Here are some of the reasons why you should choose Mid Essex for your teacher training:

We have 32 years’ experience and over 800 teachers have trained with us in Essex.

Mid Essex has a small, friendly team of staff who get to know all our trainee teachers well and are able to offer personalised support for them every Thursday.

We have received two outstanding Ofsted judgements in a row (2017 and 2024).

We have links with more than 20 secondary schools across Essex and most candidates will be placed in one of their top three schools.

We also have excellent links with a number of partner organisations.

We train up to 70 trainees each year and you will meet up with them, face-to-face, every week.

Our weekly training is in the fantastic Braintree Sixth Form Theatre, where you will hear from a range of experts in their field.

In addition, you will have weekly Subject Expert Training (SET) in smaller subject cohorts, hosted at your Lead Subject Tutor’s school.

You will also be awarded a PGCE (with Level 7 Master's credits) from Anglia Ruskin University.

You will have the support of a dedicated Course Tutor from the central Mid Essex ITT team, plus a Subject Mentor, Professional Tutor and Lead Subject Tutor. There is always someone at the end of an email or phone to contact.

Our course completion rate has mostly been higher than, or in line with, the national average for the last 10 years.

Our employment rate has also been higher than the national average for the last 10 years, with 95% to 100% of all trainees who complete the course securing a teaching role. The majority of trainees secure jobs in one of their placement schools.

Our retention rate is also higher than the national average.

The wellbeing of our trainees is one of our key priorities and we make active steps each year to review the workload of both our trainees and mentors.

We are proud of our diverse cohort and welcome the variety of skills and experience that our trainees bring to the profession. We have full disabled access at our training venue and at a number of our schools. We welcome any requests from applicants concerning anything we can do to support you as you apply to join the course. It is important to us that Mid Essex ITT is a place where everyone feels that they belong
