What skills and experience we're looking for

Qualified Teacher Status and successful experience in primary education.

A strong track record of improving early reading, literacy and language outcomes for children.

Significant experience of Read Write Inc. Phonics and supporting its implementation in schools.

Experience of coaching, mentoring and training teachers, teaching assistants and school leaders.

Secure knowledge of systematic synthetic phonics, reading development, vocabulary acquisition, language development, fluency and comprehension.

Experience of supporting literacy improvement across schools or leading whole-school literacy development.

An understanding of effective implementation and evidence-informed practice.

The ability to analyse performance information and identify priorities for improvement.

Strong facilitation, presentation and communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

The ability to work collaboratively with leaders and staff across multiple schools.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

A commitment to improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils, pupils with SEND and those at risk of falling behind.

A commitment to the mission, values and Catholic ethos of SJCMAT.

The ability to travel regularly between Trust schools.

Flexible working opportunities

This role is offered on a part-time basis of 0.4-0.6 FTE (two to three days per week), with the working pattern agreed in advance to meet Trust priorities and academy needs. SJCMAT is committed to supporting flexible working wherever possible and recognises the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Some flexibility may be required to support training events, school reviews and the onboarding of new schools joining the Trust.

The Trust Literacy and Oracy Development Partner will play a key role in strengthening literacy and spoken language provision across SJCMAT schools as the Trust continues to grow.

Working closely with the Director of Primary Education and the Trust Reading Leader, the successful candidate will support the implementation of the Trust's literacy and oracy strategy through high-quality training, coaching and implementation support. The role will focus on developing sustainable expertise within schools and ensuring evidence-informed approaches are implemented effectively.

The postholder will work with teachers, teaching assistants, reading leaders and senior leaders to improve practice in areas including Read Write Inc. Phonics, Talk Through Stories, Say a Poem and wider literacy and language development. Particular emphasis will be placed on improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils, pupils with SEND and those at risk of falling behind.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled literacy practitioner to influence practice across multiple schools, develop staff expertise and help ensure that every child becomes a confident reader, communicator and learner.
