What skills and experience we're looking for

  • Qualified teacher status

  • Degree

  • Successful primary teaching experience or successful teaching placements.

  • Teaching experience in Key Stage 2 either as a current classteacher or on placement.

  • Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum

  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies

  • A good understanding of how children learn

  • Ability to adapt teaching to meet pupils’ needs and for those with an EHCP.

  • Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils

  • Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children

  • Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies

  • Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning

Desirable:

  • Experience leading a curriculum area as a subject leader.

  • Expertise in leading a Foundation Subject

  • Read, Write Inc trained and familiar with the Read, Write Inc programme of study and how it can impact positively on pupils working in Key Stage 2.

  • Experience of instructional coaching being a valuable model of professional development.

The Governing Body at Pennycross Primary School is looking to appoint a Key Stage 2 class teacher to work as part of the Upper Key Stage 2 teaching team and to take on full class responsibility for either a Year 5 or Year 6 class. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is currently an expereinced Key Stage 2 class teacher or is seeking their first teaching role as an Early Career Teacher (ECT).

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and candidates are kindly requested to contact the school office to arrange an appointment with either the Headteacher or Deputy headteacher to view the school.

Successful cadidates will be contacted on Monday 18th May 2026 with interviews planned for Tuesday 19th May 2026. Although there is a short period of time between shortlisting and the interview date, please plan ahead using the dates provided in the advert.
