Wrap Around Care Supervisor job summary

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated individual to manage the running of our wrap-around care.

This position is five mornings per week, between 7.25 and 8.55, and five afternoons per week, between 15.15 and 18.00, term time only.

The Role

For many of our families, breakfast and after-school club mark the start and end of the school day. We are looking for a warm, organized and dependable wrap-around Care Supervisor to lead that provision for children aged 4 to 11 across our infant and junior schools.

You will run the club day to day, lead a small team of wrap-around care assistants, and make sure every child feels safe, settled and happy, whether that means a calm breakfast, a game outside or a quiet corner to read. You will be the friendly face parents and carers see at drop-off and pick-up, and the person colleagues rely on to keep things running smoothly

The Barnehurst Federation brings our infant and junior schools together on one site, so children can enjoy a joined-up primary experience from Reception to Year 6. We are a caring, ambitious community, and we are proud of our pupils, staff, and families.

We are part of The Primary First Trust, a family of primary schools across Bexley, Medway and Kent. Each school keeps its own character, and staff benefit from the training, support, and career routes of a wider trust.

About You

You will be trustworthy, enthusiastic, energetic, well-organized, and self-motivated. You will also have excellent communication skills and be able to build a strong and appropriate rapport with children and parents/carers.

You will have patience, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor to make a positive difference. You will be able to support children in their play while maintaining their safety and following the school's behavior guidelines.

You must also demonstrate good food hygiene practices and follow the school's health and safety policies.

Previous experience working with children and knowledge of safeguarding would be advantageous in this role. However, full training will be available.

What you will do:

  • Lead the daily running of breakfast and after-school club, including registers, sign-in and collection procedures
  • Plan and organise a varied, play-based program of activities, indoors and outdoors, suitable for a wide age range
  • Supervise, guide and support a small team of wrap-around care assistants, including rotas, cover and induction of new staff
  • Keep children safe at all times, following the school's safeguarding, behavior, health and safety and first aid procedures
  • Prepare and serve simple breakfasts and snacks, managing allergies and dietary needs carefully
  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers, passing on messages and handling queries in a friendly, professional way
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, bookings, incidents and accidents, and support the school office with bookings and payments
  • Work closely with teachers and school leaders so the club supports children's wellbeing and any additional needs

What you will bring:

We care more about your approach with children and your ability to lead a team than about a long list of qualifications. You will need:

  • Experience of working with children in a school, club, nursery or similar setting
  • Some experience of supervising or organising others, formally or informally
  • A calm, patient and positive manner, with clear and fair expectations of behaviour
  • Good communication skills with children, parents and colleagues
  • Good organisation and record-keeping, and confidence using basic IT
  • A clear understanding of why safeguarding matters, and a commitment to acting on concerns
  • Reliability and good timekeeping (the club runs to fixed times every day)

It would be helpful, but not essential, if you have:

  • A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, playwork or supporting teaching and learning
  • A current Pediatric First Aid and/or Food Hygiene certificate - we are also happy to offer training
  • Experience of supporting children with SEND

If you don't have every item on this list but feel you could do the job well, we still encourage you to apply. Full training, including first aid, food hygiene and safeguarding, will be provided.

What we offer:

  • Children who are a pleasure to spend time with, and a supportive, friendly staff team
  • Hours that fit around the school day and term-time working
  • Induction, ongoing training and development opportunities across The Primary First Trust
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Employee assistance programme / wellbeing support
