Purpose:

As our Year 6 teacher, you will deliver high‑quality teaching, support pupils through end‑of‑key‑stage expectations, and create an engaging, structured environment where every child can succeed. You will share our commitment to developing lifelong learners and promoting strong academic achievement for all pupils. You will work closely with our experienced staff team, communicate effectively with families and colleagues, and bring a belief that every child can flourish.

Duties (further details in the attached application pack):

  • Establish a safe, stimulating and respectful classroom environment where ambitious goals stretch pupils of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Take full accountability for the attainment and progress of Year 6 pupils, ensuring they are prepared for the transition to secondary education.
  • Demonstrate expert subject knowledge and a critical understanding of statutory assessment requirements, including SATs, while promoting high standards of literacy and oracy.
  • Plan and teach well-structured, engaging lessons that impart deep knowledge, foster intellectual curiosity and utilise lesson time with maximum efficiency.
  • Tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including those with SEND, EAL or high abilities, by overcoming barriers to learning with specific, effective strategies.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress, set precise targets and provide feedback that empowers pupils to lead their own learning.
  • Implement clear routines and consistent behaviour frameworks, using praise and sanctions fairly to maintain a focused and motivated learning atmosphere.
  • Encourage a conscientious and responsible attitude toward study, using homework and out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend classroom learning.
  • Build strong professional relationships with colleagues and effectively deploy support staff to ensure every child receives the intervention they need.
  • Contribute vibrantly to the wider life of the school, maintaining proactive partnerships with parents and committing to continuous professional development.
