About Beaufort School
Beaufort School is a Local Authority maintained special primary school that provides high-quality education for 94 pupils with severe and complex learning needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and ASD. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and benefit from a curriculum and environment that are tailored to their individual learning profiles.
The school is situated on a shared site with Colebourne Primary School, a mainstream setting. While the co-location offers some opportunities for wider collaboration, it also presents logistical and structural challenges. The current leadership team, in collaboration with the Local Authority and
stakeholders, is actively working to make better use of the site to ensure provision is fully aligned to the needs of Beaufort’s pupils.
In June 2023, Beaufort was placed in Special Measures following an Ofsted inspection. Since then, the school has made significant progress, with two positive Ofsted monitoring visits recognising improvements in leadership, safeguarding, Quality of Education and strategic direction.
Beaufort School is on a journey of change and growth. Finding the right people to help us on our journey is crucial. So if you are enthusiastic, motivated and innovative we would like you to come and work with us and be part of the Beaufort team. The school has had two Ofsted monitoring visits and a third is due before the end of the academic year. Each visit has shown that the school has made significant progress. It was stated that: ‘The whole school community is working well together to begin to make the necessary improvements identified at the last inspection. Your revisions to the post-Ofsted inspection action plan have ensured that progress is well reviewed and clear about what the school has already achieved and what remains. Staff spoken to during the visit and those who responded to the survey were positive about the school’s journey’
The staff at Beaufort are passionate about teaching children who need a bespoke, individualised curriculum to support their communicative, social, physical or emotional difficulties. We are continuing to build a team of expert staff who have a deep understanding of the needs of the pupils. You will find that every member of staff plays their part in supporting the pupils to achieve their best. We work as a team to deliver our vision 'working together to achieve success for all'. So far we have implemented a new curriculum, a whole school assessment system and behaviour/ communication initiatives which better suit our learners.
Beaufort is currently subject to a Direct Academy Order (DAO) and is being supported by Birmingham City Council in the process of identifying a suitable academy sponsor. This work is being undertaken
collaboratively and transparently, with close involvement from the Interim Executive Board (IEB) and other stakeholders to ensure a strategic and well-matched partnership is secured.
