About Burgh by Sands School

The governors of our well-supported village school would like to appoint an inspirational and empathetic Headteacher who will share our whole school vision. Staff and governors aim for all pupils to:

Burgh-by-Sands is within the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with easy access to the Lake District National Park. It is located on the Hadrian’s Wall Path, and formerly the site of a major Roman fort. It
boasts a 12th Century church, and it was the death place of Edward 1st. With a thriving community life, the village is just seven miles west of the city of Carlisle.

Burgh-by-Sands School has an active PTA as well as strong links with the consortium of local schools. In 2022 we were rated ‘good’ by Ofsted, who said, “Pupils are happy to attend school and they are eager to learn. Pupils
respond well to leaders’ high expectations for their behaviour. Pupils are polite, courteous and helpful. Leaders have designed an ambitious curriculum, including in the early years.”
