About Firs Primary School

Firs Primary School photo

Firs Primary School is a Good school, as confirmed at our last Ofsted inspection in June 2022. The Inspectors felt that: “Firs Primary School is an inclusive, happy and welcoming school. The ‘Firsy Five’ values are at the heart of everything staff and pupils do. Staff and pupils ensure that everyone, including those who are new to the country, feel safe and welcomed…This is a school that cares for all.”

Firs is a highly diverse school with over 50 languages being spoken by the children. We have a high population of children from the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller Community, mainly from Slovakia but also from across Eastern Europe. We also have an increasing number of children whose families have moved to the UK from Africa. A high proportion of our children are entitled to free school meals and we have a highly transient population.

These are the main challenges at Firs, which are far outweighed by the positives! Our children are fabulous - resilient and keen to learn. We have an enthusiastic and highly motivated staff team who work hard to ensure our children have the best educational experience they can during their time at Firs. We are a very caring school with a strong focus on mental health and wellbeing of all members of our community. We were recently awarded the Gold Award for Mental Health in Schools; we also won the Kellogg’s Best Breakfast Club in the East Midlands and have attained the Music Mark.
