Ripon Grammar School is an outstanding, day and boarding, co-educational, selective grammar school, situated at the heart of the city of Ripon. We offer a broad academic curriculum which is challenging and inspiring. Added to first rate teaching, our students engender a strong work ethic and community of learning. While we value highly a spirit of independent learning, academic support and guidance, delivered via the tutorial system, is also excellent. Consequently GCSE and A Level results and ‘value added’ are, year on year, exceptionally strong each year whilst students have opportunities to develop a wide range of personal and social skills.

We value especially our ability to know our students as individuals. We encourage them to be involved in the school community, taking leadership roles and through supporting younger students. We are very proud of the student-led organisation of our annual charity week as well as their involvement in House events [including House Drama, House Debating and Sports Day].

Equally important is our broad enrichment programme which develops participation, leadership and confidence through such activities as weekly sport, an outstanding music programme, voluntary service, work experience and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, to name just a few. Alongside this programme there exists a vibrant society life which encompasses both academic societies and more broad political and community-based groups.

As the only state boarding school in Yorkshire, we have a thriving boarding community. This provides students with a ‘home from home’, but also gives them the sense of independence and experience of living within a community, thus providing a unique preparation for university life to come.
