About Rumworth School

We are passionate about providing an outstanding provision for the students at Rumworth School. Rumworth is a large 11-19 Secondary Special School, maintained by Bolton Local Education Authority.

We cater for a range of learning difficulties and additional needs for 330 students, with an aspiration to grow to 400, and with a planned building expansion programme. SEND needs include: Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties, Complex Needs, Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Hearing and Visual Impairment, Physical Disability and Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. Our vision is quite simply to support our young people to be more confident, resilient and independent for life, with a strong emphasis on preparing them for sustainable employment beyond school. Post-19, a number of our students attend LifeBridge, a non-maintained 19-25 adult SEND provision that Rumworth School founded, under the direction of the current Headteacher, to support further this vision. Rumworth, with LifeBridge, has created a unique 11-25 curriculum pathway to independent living, which we are keen to see developed further. Students work towards an extensive range of externally accredited qualifications at KS4 and KS5, with sustained progression post-19 planned into the curriculum provision at LifeBridge. The school offers a rich and innovative vocational offer on-site, which includes a Bistro and Horticulture centre, both staffed by students on placement or as part of their vocational education.
