About St Mary and St John CofE VA Primary School

St Mary & St John is a thriving, maintained Church of England Voluntary Aided primary school and pre-school nestled in a stunning village location in the beautiful county of Rutland. Our long-standing Headteacher is retiring, so the Governors are seeking to appoint an inspirational, ambitious, articulate and caring new Headteacher to lead our school as it continues on its journey towards excellence.

Children are at the core and forefront of all our endeavours, therefore you yourself will be an outstanding classroom practitioner who can lead by example. You will ensure the holistic development of happy children with enquiring minds, a spirit of curiosity, respect for themselves, others and the environment so that they have the knowledge, skills, resilience and adaptability to thrive in a rapidly changing world. You will ensure every child can access an exciting, relevant, knowledge rich curriculum that inspires them. You will provide the support each individual needs to grow, flourish and shine during their time at St Mary & St John.

We can offer you a school with single age group classes and pre-school full of beautiful, polite and well-behaved children set in an outstanding natural environment. ‘Pupils say they are happy to be part of such a special place’, whilst our dedicated staff team, parents and carers say that the school has ‘a real family feel’. (Ofsted, November 2023). We have a motivated and enthusiastic staff team, strong parental, church and community involvement and a supportive governing body committed to your success. Our recent Ofsted inspection found the school to be good in all areas and our SIAMS inspection judged us to be an ‘excellent’ church school (April 2019), providing a solid foundation on which to drive school improvement and strive for outstanding outcomes.
