About The Hackthorn Church of England Primary School
We are a small Church of England Primary School set in the beautiful rural village of Hackthorn, just outside the city of Lincoln, maintained and administered by the Education Department of Lincolnshire County Council. The school caters for a maximum of 60 pupils between the ages of 4 and 11 and has two multifunctional classrooms where pupils are taught in mixed year groups. It also has a well-equipped outdoor recreation area and playing field.
The school is committed to providing the highest quality of education through an inclusive, caring, family environment, which nourishes the diverse talents of all children and prepares them for future success.
As a church school, our faith is important and we follow the Christian values in all we do: the way that we treat each other, the way that we look for opportunities to help those in need and the practical application of our values. We believe that everyone has a part to play as a responsible member of not only our learning environment but in our local community and wider society.
We know that happy children make fantastic learners. Our aim is to provide an environment that is conducive to making happy learners. The child is at the heart of everything we do, and we take great pleasure in nurturing our pupils and celebrating their individual achievements both within and outside the school environment. The size of our school allows us to know each pupil thoroughly and to foster a friendly, family atmosphere.
Our School Ethos
Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level. This partnership influences the atmosphere and character of the whole school.
The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.
We believe that our school is a truly unique and special place. We invited all the stakeholders of the school (pupils, parents, staff, the church, School Governors and the community) to reflect on what makes it so special and to consider words that started with the letters in Hackthorn, which summed up the ethos of our small, family-friendly school. The following nine words were the ones which were repeatedly mentioned and which we now refer to as 'The Hackthorn Way'.
The whole community here have really embraced these values and one of our children even invented ‘The 'Hackthorn Way' rap. Interestingly the top value was Happiness (not a word you often hear in Education). The other values of Aspiration, Community, Kindness, Tradition, Honesty, Opportunity, Respect and Nurture sum up the ethos of our school perfectly.
Commitment to safeguarding
All employees need to be aware of the possible abuse of children and vulnerable adults and if you are concerned you need to follow the Lincolnshire County Council Safeguarding Policy. In addition, employees working with children and vulnerable adults have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults during the course of their work
