(i) Professional experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Evidence of participation in professional development or study
  • Successful teaching experience or evidence of successful completion of initial teacher training
  • Working in a socially and culturally diverse school community
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum requirements
  • Understands and is familiar with teaching and learning strategies

(ii) Ability to work within a professional team and to develop and promote the school’s ethos and values within the Primary Phase

  • Teaching to a high standard
  • Relates to and motivates pupils
  • Works well within and contributes to team development
  • Understands and values the processes of planning monitoring and evaluation as an aid to raising standards
  • Good classroom management
  • Evidence of a commitment to an equal opportunities policy both in service employment

(iii) Ability to Communicate Clearly

  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good presentational and ICT skills
  • Clear and effective in meetings and in one-to-one discussions
  • Skilled in conflict resolution

Our School:

Talbot Specialist School is a recently inspected good school for students aged 11-19 with Cognition and Learning Difficulties – including emotional needs, behavioural needs, profound and complex learning difficulties and autism. We are based in the South of Sheffield, serving approximately 240 young people and their families from across the city. Situated on the same site as Newfield School, we offer high quality facilities which enable our students to be as independent and prepared as possible to have purposeful and fulfilled adult lives. We actively seek opportunities to promote inclusion and work closely with Newfield and other Sheffield Special Schools.

We have a new leadership team in place and are developing our provision to include learning at different sites across the city. This is an exciting time to join the school and to be part of our amazing journey!
