The Job:

Pleckgate High School seek to appoint an Art Teacher on a full time and permanent contract from 1st January 2027.


What does this job do?

  • To assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the subject area.
  • To plan and prepare courses and lessons.
  • To assist the Subject Leader to ensure that the curriculum area provides a range of teaching which complements the Academy’s Strategic Objectives.
  • To take part in the Academy’s staff development programme by participating in arrangements for further training and professional development.
  • To contribute to the process of monitoring and evaluation of the subject area in line with agreed Academy procedures, including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria.
  • To take part, as may be required, in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the Academy.
  • To maintain appropriate records and to provide relevant accurate and up-to-date information for Management Information Systems (MIS), registers etc.
  • To communicate effectively with the parents of pupils as appropriate.

  • What are the job requirements?

  • Qualified to degree level in an art-based subject or adequate post degree conversion course.
  • Qualified teacher status.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality lessons in art to pupils of all ages and abilities.
  • Experience of teaching art throughout the Key Stages and securing good outcomes.
  • Knowledge of requirements of the art curriculum and developments and initiatives relating to the subject and its implications for pupils.
  • Be a well-qualified art specialist.
  • Have experience of designing engaging learning opportunities which promote excellent knowledge and understanding of art.
  • Have an excellent understanding of how to assess pupils progress and make adaptations to the learning experience to allow all pupils to be successful.
  • Be able to demonstrate support offered to pupils that struggle with aspects of art.
  • Be passionate about the teaching of art and knowledgeable of art pedagogy.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of the curriculum that is responsive to the needs of pupils in our school.
  • Contribute to departmental CPD in order that all pupils receive a consistent, high-quality teaching experience in the department.
