What skills and experience we're looking for
About us and the role
We are seeking an Assistant Chef to join the catering team at Avanti Park Primary School, helping to prepare and serve fresh, nutritious meals for our pupils and staff each day.
Working closely with the Chef Manager and wider kitchen team, you will support food preparation, meal packing and service, as well as helping to prepare refreshments for staff and hospitality requirements. You will play an important part in keeping the kitchen clean, organised and fully prepared for each day’s service, while also assisting with deliveries, stock rotation, storage and the safe handling of food and equipment.
You will follow established food hygiene, HACCP, COSHH and Health and Safety procedures, helping to maintain consistently high standards across all areas of the kitchen. This is a varied, hands-on role where you will work as part of a supportive catering team and contribute to a positive mealtime experience for our pupils.

What will you do?
- Support the Chef Manager and kitchen team with the preparation, packing and service of meals and refreshments for pupils, staff and hospitality requirements.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation across kitchen, preparation and packing areas, including washing and preparing crockery, cutlery and equipment for service.
- Receive, handle, store and rotate food deliveries and stock, ensuring food is prepared and stored in line with quality, hygiene and food safety requirements.
- Work collaboratively with permanent, part-time and flexible colleagues to ensure the catering service runs smoothly and consistently each day.
- Follow all relevant Health and Safety, COSHH, HACCP, risk assessment and temperature-control procedures, reporting any defects, risks or near misses promptly.
