This role will be based at King Edward VII Academy, Gaywood Road, King's Lynn, Norfolk, PE30 2QB.
Are you passionate about making a real difference to young people? We are looking for a highly motivated and resilient pastoral professional to provide outstanding support across behaviour, attendance, wellbeing and safeguarding, helping pupils overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.
Working closely with the Head of Year and wider school team, you will build positive relationships, champion high expectations and provide consistent, effective pastoral support to help create a positive and inclusive environment where every pupil can thrive.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide high-quality pastoral and behavioural support to pupils within the specified year group, helping them to achieve their full potential.
- Work closely with the Head of Year, tutors and teaching staff to promote high standards of behaviour, attendance, punctuality and readiness to learn.
- Be a visible and consistent presence around school, reinforcing expectations including uniform, behaviour and school standards.
- Lead and support behaviour interventions, mentoring and pupil coaching, including monitoring behaviour patterns and behaviour reports.
- Promote excellent attendance and punctuality, tracking individual pupils and supporting targeted interventions for persistent absence and lateness.
- Develop positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers and colleagues, communicating professionally about pastoral, behaviour and attendance matters.
- Support safeguarding and pupil welfare, working closely with the DSL and other safeguarding leads to respond appropriately to concerns.
- Provide pastoral support for vulnerable pupils, including those with SEND, Looked After Children and Young Carers, working with relevant staff and external agencies.
- Support year group activities, assemblies, monitoring and the development of a positive year group ethos.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to meetings, reviews, referrals and other processes that support pupils’ progress, wellbeing and inclusion.
About You:
We are looking for a highly professional, resilient and positive individual who is passionate about supporting young people to succeed. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues, and the confidence to manage challenging behaviour and complex situations. You will be able to use your initiative, make sound decisions and work effectively under pressure, while maintaining high expectations and a strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and equality.
Essential:
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) and a relevant Level 3 qualification.
- Experience of successfully working with pupils and building positive relationships with staff, parents/carers and other stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of pupil behaviour, including strategies to promote positive behaviour and support pupils with behavioural and learning difficulties.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to make sound decisions, resolve problems, recognise changes in pupils’ behaviour and take direct responsibility for pupil safety and progress.
Desirable:
- Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Experience of working within a school environment and an understanding of the factors that can affect pupil behaviour, attendance and engagement.
- Knowledge of statutory frameworks relevant to the role, including safeguarding and SEND.
- Experience of Ofsted inspection.
- Experience of leading, motivating or developing others and contributing to review meetings or wider pastoral initiatives.
