Food & Nutrition Technician job summary
Marshland High School are seeking a Food & Nutrition Technician to join their school
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 9 hours/week, 39 weeks/year (term time only plus training days) 8.30 – 11.30am 3 days per week (or as agreed with the candidate). Flexibility of working days is desirable.

Purpose of the Job
To provide an effective and efficient support service in Food & Nutrition to aid teaching staff in the successful completion of teaching programmes and the safe use of equipment, apparatus and utensils. Support and training will be provided for the post holders to fulfil the responsibilities listed. External training courses will need to be attended as required, including First Aid at Work.
NB This may include the handling of all foods.
Responsibilities, but not limited too;
· Provide timely preparation of materials and other resources for pupils’ work. Set up equipment/materials/ingredients as required for the day’s lessons, including prep for demos and student-provided ingredients, ready for use.
· With reference to the departments’ timetables and agreed daily priorities ensure teachers have the materials, resources and equipment needed for the day at the start of each day and any preparation for the next working day is checked upon.
· Provide help and support for pupils in one-to-one / small group situations, to help them develop their own outcomes, after consultation with the class teacher. Support students in storing and covering food, tidying and putting away after lessons, and ensuring the next lesson is fully set up. Assist children with ingredients/weighing out, etc.
· To support exhibitions and departmental displays.
· To understand and facilitate specific Food processes and materials.
· Proactively and using own initiative identify support that may be required or issues that require resolving, then consult appropriate colleagues to resolve collaboratively.
Equipment, Quality and Health and Safety
· Ensure that the requisite Health and Safety Regulations and risk assessments are compiled with, and checked for the safety of all staff and pupils. Any missing risk assessments should be reported to the Head of Department and the Site Manager (Health & Safety). Check first aid kits are stocked appropriately and products in date.
· Ensure the Food department is a tidy and safe environment for all staff and students including displays, sinks and communal areas.
· Checking machinery, equipment and materials are properly maintained, safe, and ready for use daily including:
- checking and cleaning chiller/fridge/freezer, disposing of unwanted/out of date stock and that temperatures are correct
- cookers and work surfaces are clean and healthy
- fill and empty washing machine/tumble dryer/dishwasher
- check cupboards and drawers are clean, tidy, and equipped correctly, and used items such as flour dredgers are replenished where necessary
- replenish kitchen towels, soap, detergent, and sanitiser liquid bottles
- safe storage of equipment, materials and ingredients as appropriate before the end of the school day
· Control stocks of materials and goods across the Creative Design and Food, including budget awareness, orders, replenishment, goods receipt and delivery note checking, where appropriate, in line with financial procedures.
· Within the competence of the technician, undertaking routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment, updating records, and keeping a inspection log of equipment. Report faults found in equipment to the Head of Department.
· Undertake any other reasonable responsibilities as required by the Headteacher.
· Assisting cover staff during staff absence including producing materials.
