What skills and experience we're looking for

Are you a passionate and experienced educational leader with a drive to make a difference in the lives of young people? EBN Academy is seeking an exceptional Assistant Headteacher to join our team. This pivotal role will shape the future of our Academy, championing excellence in SEND provision, behaviour and attendance, and pupil transitions while promoting a culture of high expectations, equality, and success for all.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head Teacher, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in:

  • SEND: As SENDCO, ensure our SEND provision complies with national standards and meets the needs of every learner.
  • Behaviour and Attendance: Drive high standards of behaviour and attendance, ensuring the policies and systems are effective and consistently applied.
  • Pupil Transition: Oversee the seamless transition of students into and out of the Academy, supporting their success at every stage.

You will play a key role in the development of pastoral systems, lead a dedicated team of staff, and contribute to the overall leadership and improvement of the Academy.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead SEND provision, including maintaining the SEND register and provision map, managing EHCP reviews, and collaborating with parents, carers, and external agencies.
  • Champion behaviour and attendance excellence through strategic planning, data analysis, and implementation of effective interventions.
  • Manage pupil transitions, ensuring information flow and successful integration of new starters and leavers.
  • Line-manage staff, deliver CPD, and embed collaborative and inclusive practices.
  • Serve as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), contributing to the Academy’s safeguarding culture.
  • Promote and implement policies that celebrate diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A proven track record in leadership, ideally as a SENDCO or in a pastoral leadership role.
  • Expertise in SEND legislation, behaviour management, and student attendance strategies.
  • Experience working collaboratively with parents, carers, and multi-agency teams.
  • Outstanding teaching and learning practices, with the ability to model excellence.
  • Relevant qualifications, including the National Award for SEND Coordination (or willingness to achieve this).
