What skills and experience we're looking for

Do you want to be a part of the new, exciting leadership structure at Abbotswood Junior School? If so, read on.

Due to the retirement and promotion of our two current Deputy Headteachers, we are looking to appoint two Assistant Headteachers from September 2024.

Working alongside an experienced Headteacher, you will be part of a school described by Ofsted (June 2023) as,

“A happy school with so much on offer…classrooms are vibrant and excellent places to learn…staff are immensely proud to work at the school. Morale is high and teamwork strong.”

What are we looking for? Someone who:

  • is passionate about children’s learning and providing an education which meets the needs of all children.

  • consistently demonstrates outstanding teaching in their current role.

  • has proven experience in leading and impacting on a team, a core subject, or a key curriculum area.

  • is a team player who is able to lead but also learn from others.

  • has a track record of raising achievement.

  • believes that effective relationships are the cornerstone to any successful school.

  • is hardworking, resilient, inspirational, loyal and has super powers!

As we are totally reorganising our leadership structure, the responsibilities of each role will be matched to the two successful applicants. However, the following areas will form a part of the two roles:

  • Behaviour, attitudes and school culture.

  • Pastoral leadership.

  • Strategic leadership of Safeguarding.

  • Leadership of Staff teams - Sports Coaches, PPA Team.

  • Impact of assessment.

  • Leading our Room 5 (pastoral) Team.

  • Coaching.

  • Pupil Voice.

  • Day-to-day running of a school with approximately 620 children.

  • Both roles will have a teaching responsibility (approx. 40%).
