Birkbeck Primary School is seeking an ambitious, inspirational and highly skilled Assistant Head Teacher to join our committed team and play a pivotal role in shaping the next chapter of our school’s journey due to the successful promotion of the previous postholder to Deputy Head Teacher. We Are Looking For an Assistant Head Teacher Who Will:

  • Work in strategic partnership with the Head Teacher and the leadership team to drive cohesive, strategic and aligned leadership
  • Model excellence in professional conduct, communication and leadership
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, families and the wider community, including governors and the local authority, ensuring that every individual feels a sense of belonging within our community
  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner
  • Lead with warmth, integrity and resilience
  • Demonstrate a deep commitment to inclusion with a strong belief that every child can achieve
  • Be committed to developing the workforce through the use of instructional coaching
  • Be committed to developing as a leader, with a passion for their own professional development and that of others

  • Ensuring every child in your class, year group, phase and the school makes progress as well as ensuring that they feel that they belong to our school community
  • Driving high-quality teaching across all subjects and phases
  • Championing every child
  • Shaping curriculum design and ensuring coherence and high standards
  • Managing staff and resources effectively
  • Supporting school improvement priorities and long‑term strategy – having areas of responsibility where you can drive and sustain change to develop the school
  • Strengthening relationships with families, governors, the LA and community partners

  • As a Deputy DSL, support the DSL in embedding a strong, vigilant and inclusive safeguarding culture, ensuring systems, policies and staff practice consistently protect pupils and support early identification of need.
