Assistant Headteacher (Intervention Programs & Inclusion) job summary
About the Academy
Coventry Alternative Provision Academy (CAPA) is a vibrant, sponsor-led alternative provision academy dedicated to supporting vulnerable and disengaged students aged 11 to 16 (Key Stages 3 and 4). As part of Solihull Alternative Provision Multi Academy Trust (SAPMAT), we provide a safe, inclusive, and highly supportive learning environment for up to 120 pupils who are at risk of permanent exclusion or require a tailored educational pathway.
Our Mission & Impact
- Re-engaging Learners: We break down barriers to learning by delivering bespoke, high-impact education programmes tailored to individual needs.
- Positive Transitions: We focus heavily on student outcomes, helping young people successfully reintegrate into mainstream education, transition to specialist settings, or secure paths into further education, training, and employment.
- Small Class Sizes: Our smaller-than-average class sizes allow our dedicated staff to build strong, meaningful relationships and deliver targeted academic and pastoral support.
About the role
CAPA is seeking an inspiring, resilient, and forward-thinking Assistant Headteacher to pioneer our Intervention Programs and Inclusion strategies. This is not a traditional senior leadership role. As a key driving force across our dual-site provision, you will hold operational and strategic responsibility for shaping an agenda of undisputed success. Working hand-in-hand with the Headteacher, you will design bespoke student support packages, champion outstanding personal development and behaviour, and lead a highly motivated, solution-focused staff team. You will also leverage your expertise in safeguarding by executing the vital statutory responsibilities of a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Why this role is distinct:
System-Wide Strategic Impact: You will actively drive and unify cross-site initiatives, establishing CAPA as a definitive centre of excellence for alternative provision.
Autonomy and Innovation: We give you the platform to implement cutting-edge, evidence-based intervention strategies, using data to track, measure, and scale your success.
True Leadership Development: This role is a proven stepping stone for future Headship. You will heavily focus on coaching and empowering staff, elevating pedagogy, and shaping school improvement plans.
A Culture of Shared Values: You will be backed by a Trust built on core principles of Excellence, Simplicity, Mutual Trust, and Collaborative Leadership.
Why Join Us?
Working at CAPA offers a uniquely rewarding opportunity to make a tangible, daily difference in the lives of young people who need it most. You will join a compassionate, resilient, and forward-thinking team led by the Headteacher Glenn Mellor, with access to professional development and collaborative support through the wider SAPMAT network.

Who you are:

You are a sophisticated communicator who can build powerful partnerships with families, external agencies, and the wider community. Most importantly, you possess the professional integrity, personal resilience, and data-driven insight required to turn complex challenges into stories of student triumph.
- Are you an exceptional leader with a heartfelt commitment to breaking down barriers to education?
- Do you thrive in environments where your strategic vision directly transforms the life chances of vulnerable young people?
